Duration: a total 4 weeks

The work was carried out for Forest Way School which is a specialist school based in Leicestershire. The work we carried out was the preparation to create an exciting playground for children with Autism.

We used the Kubota U27-4 with the Engcon Tiltrotator for the exacavations, allowing us to be excavate hard to reach areas from a single point of movement, this saved a lot of time as some hard to reach areas would have otherwise been hand dug.

We were contacted by Forest Way School to prepare an unused and unsafe space, into an area that could be transformed into a playground.

Forest Way School were open to ideas for the best way to retain the soil, LDW Group opted for a Gabion Retaining wall, filled with granite supplied from the local quarry, to in keep with the school’s surroundings and local town.

We began by excavating and removing excess soil creating a level area to work from. We then removed the unsafe RSJ’s and sleepers and replaced them with new RSJ’s and concrete panels along the right-hand side. We installed Gabion Baskets along the front and left hand side of the playground plot. Using recycled materials, we raised the ground level by 2.5m, heavily compacting every 200mm to ensure maximum ground support. 

The area was finished with flat top edging kerbs and heavily compacted MOT type 1, ready for the playground to be installed by Playforce, part of i’d verde and fencing to be installed by Charnwood fencing.

This is the first time that Forest Way School has worked with LDW Groundworks and from start to finish I can only say what a pleasure it was working with Luke and his team.

LDW Groundworks were consulted and brought in to complete the groundworks to a new Communication and Interaction Unit. They designed and created a wall of gabion baskets that secured the site in keeping with the existing environment so that it looks as though they have always been there. The work was completed to the highest specification under extremely tight deadlines and challenging conditions. The end result was fantastic and I would have no hesitation in working with LDW in the future or recommending them to another schools/business. Highly recommended. Thank you for a fantastic job

Luke, Charlie & Aaron were first class from initial contact to them completing the job. They took pride in their work, arrived early in the morning and worked only taking short breaks, when I insisted they have a drink, and worked on into the late afternoon. Nothing was too much trouble and the finished area is exactly what I wanted and more. I would recommend these young people unreservedly.
